Support Groups
Support groups offer:
- Emotional support to families
- Insight into mental illness
- A place to confront fear
- Skills to cope with the impact of mental illness
- The exchange of information about resources and critical issues
- A place to learn and practice skills related to real-life problems associated with mental illness
- A commitment to reduce stigma of mental illness
Support group facilitators are trained volunteers and are uniquely equipped to deal with the challenges families face of coping with mental illness. At the meetings, members bring concerns to share with the group. All members agree to observe strict confidentiality. They help each other solve problems. Members learn that they are not alone when others care and share with them.
